Daddy's Out of Work

Daddy's out of work
The diapers are running thin
Duties he seems to shirk
The situation is a no win
Daddy's out of work again
Baby needs new shoes
He can't hold a job like other men
What are we to do?
Daddy's out of work once more
The boy needs school supplies
See if I can borrow from next door
There's that awful look in their eyes
Daddy's out of work, this better be the last
It's college tuition I have to pay
I hate to dwell on the past
Yes, we've always found a way
This constant situation has me worn out
Things could have been much better
I have no energy to shout
I hope he reads this letter
I know you're out of work again
I can't take it anymore
Yes, you always came through in the end
But this time I'm out the door
If you had only swallowed your pride
Made a bigger effort
Set your personal feeling aside
You might not now regret it
I am saddened to inform you
That I am leaving this day
The baby's now twenty-two
I must find my own way
