When you died
He reached into the
Grandfather clock
That was in your living room
And reached out
For the pendulum.
He wanted to stop time for you.
And I said to him,
Trying to ease his hurt,
That you were a lady
And a lady always knows
When to go.
And he looked up at me
Taking his hands away
From his face
For the first time
In an hour?
And I could see you in his eyes.
And then he smiled
For the first time
In days?
And in a voice of broken glass
And twisted metal
He said, "You really should
stop quoting films?"
I couldn't tell him
That ever since you died?
I had run out of things to say.
