In Stone by Neil McCall
When bricks and mortar crumble
and reserve is lost in last-gasp now-or-nevers
I will return to you
in stone.
Weep not for what might have been;
choices were made
and I would not undo the happiness of others
to resolve regrets.
Let us load our late lives
with autumn gleanings,
hold hard against the tumble
of leaves and roots and reason.
Here lies a man
at rest in craggy country
in rainy-night remembrance
in stone.
