kept a fistful of change
in a paper bag.
A present from ambivalent parents
who measured out attention to their children
like bio food.
The day gathered
along with her lips and the pile -
some days, enough for a two pound try,
on others,
the copper towers
the smell of iodine sticky off her fingers, was enough.
