After Her Sunset

Her shadows trail fingers across the horizon
I walk in melting light
Feel the rise of her chest, drawing tight
Across her veins and I weaken and welt
Heart heavy with regret
After her sunset.
Heat blisters the ground, sensing a split
All my blood, my bones
Risked to see me standing alone
Her side only holds the evening song
My brightest star yet
After her sunset.
My torture, my love, in her eyes
Filled to the core with swelling earth
Begging to sweat out the heat of this curse
Lines of her hair baked black; they tore
The tread from my footsteps
After her sunset.
