Escape

Leaving the strident strife
of domestic warfare,
with its slammed doors
and decibels of discord,
I escape to the soft sigh of the wind
through sun-sparked leaves,
the caw of a solitary crow
lost amidst the songs of invisible birds.
Sitting on my moss-crowned throne
of ancient hillside,
I trap the sun beneath lowered lids,
breathe long and slow,
to slip into a space between the worlds.
At peace at last.
