Perhaps we are but short, single notes
in the great symphony of evolution;
sounding bright for one brief moment,
then fading into silence.
Maybe we are mere gene machines,
our purpose fulfilled when sperm and egg
have met, grown and matured enough
to spawn their own replacement.
For me it’s enough to know
I have helped create the future;
given life a precious weapon
In its universal war against entropy.
