Mikael found Gainrel in what was fast becoming his habitual place, behind Baran Wardex who at the moment was sitting at the head of the Alai. Mikael gave a quick nod of recognition to Thaddeus, the Legna assigned Baran, then to each of the other Legna standing behind their Wardex. Golden breast plates gleamed from an internal light and each wore a stoic expression upon his face. A silver sword was strapped to every hip.
“Cade leaves in the morning,” Mikael said to Gainrel. “He is traveling to the Gray Mountains with the pretext of keeping his promise to the shifter. In truth, he goes for Loghan. He will travel with Dirk Wardex and the shifter.”
Gainrel nodded. “The Alai have come to a battle decision. Several runners are being dispatched to put out the call to arms. The humans will have a part to play in this battle as well, just as prophecy foretells. Baran Wardex will lead them and the Wardex to the foot of the Gray Mountains. They will establish a base of operations, dig in, and wait for the enemy to come to them. They march in two days.”
Mikael hesitated. “They are ready?”
Gainrel looked at the Alai. “They are warriors Mikael. They were created for times such as these.” He sighed. “Tonight as we guard the Wardex sleep, they will dream of the dark races. They will dream of methods in battle and victory.”
“And we my brothers,” Gainrel said raising his voice to address the other Legna in the room. “We must be ever vigilant. We must protect these Wardex from the legions of immortals loyal to the Woetress. This clan,” he spread his arms wide. “These men, are mortal warriors for The Just Creator and so our brothers in arms. Protect them, guide them, heal them.”
