I do believe that I’m the only man
Who’s sane upon this globe, and since we find
It’s fact you’d have to have gone mad (or blind)
Not to be mad in love with you, madam,
How can you blame me? I demand appeal.
(And by the way, the mad love you as well,
Which makes my staying stable hard like hell).
And say that my appeal should meet repeal,
I’ll plead insanity, and spare the fine.
Besides, a part of that defence is true:
I’ve lost a thread of thought for every line
I’ve thread in sonnets, thoughtless sonnets too.
I gain the bitter brain that now is mine,
Yet it’s so sweet to lose my mind for you.
