There Are Ghosts...

There are ghosts
in all of our machines:
they are shadows from our past.
They are gone
but return in data-streams.
There are echoes in the code.
In pictures;
older than we thought them -
they are hollows in our lives,
but loiter
in degrees of separation:
they are nodes in a network.
They were us -
before we were ourselves
- when we were less than virtual.
