“Theory proved I think,” said Dave, “well done young J.J. The only thing now is to make go back to its correct weight.”
Fortunately Abigail had counted the twiddles and it wasn’t too long before the stone was back to its’ proper weight.
“Not quite upright, said Abigail, “but then it should be easy enough to pack one side or the other with loose material to correct it.”
“Well there doesn’t seem to be any doubt about the existence of Ley lines or their probable use,” said Jennifer Jane, “but I wonder how they came to be formed in the first place?”
“Gosh just think,” said Dave. “The lines must go all the way to Wales, or wherever it is they went to get their stones. It must have been quite a sight to see people pushing them across country to get to places like this.”
“I don’t suppose we’ll ever know all the answers,” said Abigail, “and I suggest we all go home now and sleep on it.”
“I think the local paper should be worth reading in a day or two,” said Mary with a laugh, “I can see the head line now ‘Four ton stone moves by itself near haunted wood.’”
“I can’t wait to tell Jack at the museum about this,” said Dave, “just think the answer to the problem of how Stone Age man moved all those giant stones around the country. I wonder if the same principle applied at the pyramids?”
“I’m sorry to spoil your fun,” said Abigail, “but I’m afraid telling your friend Jack, or any one else for that matter is out of the question. You really should know better!”
“It does seem a pity, but just think, we’re probably the only people in this world to know how Stonehenge was built and we can’t tell anyone. Still I’m looking forward to Eve’s reactions when the paper is published.”
He didn’t have too long to wait. Two days later Eve came bursting into the kitchen at breakfast time, waving the Holmwood Advertiser.
“Have you seen this?” she cried, “there’s quite a long article about the unexplained way a stone was moved into its hole round at the dig site. I had a word with the editor about the presence of our little group a few days before and he agrees with me that it must have been done by magic!”
The Bells all looked at each other in horror, then relaxed as Eve explained that the presence of her group of witches must have influenced the supernatural forces, which the ring makers had invoked when moving their huge stones.
The article went into some detail about the rituals held by the group to influence the good spirits of ‘mother earth’ and concluded that in spite of all his knowledge modern man could still learn a thing or two from his ancestors.”
Jennifer Jane tried hard not to smile. “Golly just think, I was up there with you while all that force was being released. It seems that magic really does work!”
