“No. I do not need double glazing, I already have double glazing, I must have told you at least ten times already, do not to ring me at this number again!”
Dave put down the telephone with a bang and went back upstairs to his room, obviously annoyed that he’d been interrupted so early in the morning.
Mary looked at Jennifer Jane with a smile, “It’s very nice having him working from home most of the time now, but every now and again something like that happens and he gets upset. Not only that, but I think he’s working on a special project of his own. Whenever I go into his room to clean, he always puts a cover over his drawing board so that I can’t see what he’s doing.”
“He’s told me he’s working on something he wants to try out in the alternate world, but it’s a secret until he can be sure it works.”
Jennifer Jane went off to her lessons with the witches, puzzling over her dad’s secret idea. It was bound to be fun whatever it turned out to be, but for the life of her she couldn’t think of anything.
She went to the wishing clearing to ask for transport. It was quite a cold day and she didn’t want to arrive for her lessons wet and cold from paddling there in her canoe. Although she was so well known now that the fairies would grant her wishes from almost anywhere, she still tended to go to that spot just out of habit.
Abigail came out of the Witches’ Home to meet her, as the cloud that had brought her landed on the front lawn.
“No lessons for you today,” she said, “there’ll be far too many distractions! Tasmin’s giving a party for Freda, several dragons have already turned up and I expect lots of others, including some from your world, will be popping in during the day.
Jennifer Jane didn’t bother to use her scooter for such a short distance; she just grabbed her old broom from the guardhouse and popped over to Tasmin’s cave. Sure enough, several dragons were there already. She recognised Megan of course and Clarence.
Tasmin and Tornak were proudly showing some dragons that she didn’t recognise round their cave, while Ermintrude was also having a day off to visit Freda, who had been her companion when she was pretending to be Jennifer Jane.
She walked over to Megan, looking round all the while for her baby daughter. Clarence watched her coming rather anxiously.
“Hello er,” he paused for a moment, thinking nervously while Megan glared at him, “Jennifer Jane,” he finished in a rush, then looked hopefully at his wife.
Megan smiled at him, “Well done you big silly, wasn’t too difficult was it now?”
“I can’t see Angharad,” said Jennifer Jane.
Megan grinned and winked at her.
A rather squeaky voice said “BOO,” just behind her and Jennifer Jane jumped in surprise as convincingly as she could.
“I booed and frighted Jeffer Jay!” said the voice.
Megan smiled happily as the baby dragon toddled round from behind Jennifer Jane and went to her mother for a cuddle.
“Now then dear, why don’t you go and see if you can find Freda and play a nice game with her, after all it is her party.”
“I hope you are keeping well Jeffer Jay,” said Clarence politely, as Angharad went to find Freda. “Now what have you hit me for?” he said, as Megan thumped him with one of her wings.
“A memory like a sieve you’ve got, you had the girl’s name right just a moment ago and now you’ve forgotten it already.”
“You didn’t say anything to Angharad about it, so I thought she must be right! It’s all very confusing,” he grumbled.
Jennifer Jane just laughed. “I don’t suppose he ever will remember my name on his own, it’s one of the reasons I enjoy visiting him, just to hear what he’s going to dream up next.”
“That’s all very well, but it’s not polite now is it?”
“Well if er, Jeffery thingy doesn’t mind, then I don’t see why I should,” Clarence muttered to himself. He wandered off in a bit of a sulk, to talk to one of the visiting dragons.
Just then Tasmin came over and began talking to Megan. Jennifer Jane knew she’d not get another word in edgeways while those two were gossiping, so she left them and went to talk to the other guests.
