GoGo Gonzalez

Everything she does is done with passion and verve
She has the guts, stamina, conviction and nerve
Her first passion was horses and from this pounding her pants
She built up the strong calves and thighs that help her to dance
From horses she moved through dogs, space and then spiders
But there was always a dancer waiting inside her
From the age of twelve she’d settled on her vocation
From that day on she earned her new appellation
She’d can-can and foxtrot and boogie and twist
She’d ballet and cha-cha and charleston and whist
Her salsa and shag no man could resist
By nineteen she was a star
From La Paz to Tijuana and into Sonora
There was no man who saw her and didn’t adore her
But her eyes and her heart were owned by one signor
Hugo, the snakehips of Guadalajara
At 21 she was dancing at the peak of her profession
Nobody could shimmy, shake or Go-Go an expression
She could dazzle and sizzle and glow more in one session
Than other dancers could do in a year
But her energy had a price, she burned too brightly
Sleeping and eating all day and performing twice nightly
Meant that Hugo’s eyes wandered, wrongly or rightly
And Go-Go knew there was truth in her fears
She found Hugo with Rosa, Queen of the samba
She knew they were doing more than the rumba
But GoGo had the good sense to think and remember
That there were plenty more fish in the sea
But Rosa was jealous of heart, fiery and loco
She wanted complete victory, wanted her rival dead as a dodo
When competition time came, Rosa entered the GoGo
Hugo was front row to watch with glee
GoGo tried to be good, but her boiling passion
Spilled into anger, an emotion she could not ration
Tranquility and composure were feelings she could not fashion
For Rosa this would be bad news
The GoGo competition never quite went ahead
On the evening of the finals, Rosa was found very dead
And so at 10am GoGo Gonzalez was tearfully lead
To her last dance on the end of a noose
