Word Power
P. K. Routray
Edited by: P.Gaan
To many problems, silence is a solution,
Spoken words are like arrows and do not return.
On the earth there exist many languages and many more dialects,
For each object or activity, we have numerous words too much to digest.
But trees speak in silence without delivering a word,
Living in a group and doing yeoman’s service for us in the world.
Each word has many meanings,
They may be based on our perception and emotional feelings.
Words can have meanings learnt as lessons, as well meaning expressed by gesticulation
And also meaning as per relation and past impression.
They can be implied meaning,
Interpreted meaning Indirect meaning, direct meaning.
So on.
Perfect words with pin pointed meaning are yet to be born.
Meanings may depend on place and time,
Punishing a man with misinterpretation of his words is definitely a crime.
Meanings also depend on
Who speaks? To whom it is spoken?
Words can be termed only as a verbal sign of expression.
Meanings for same word vary from place to place.
With extinction of many tribals, their languages have lost their trace.
New words Poets do create,
When they want their thoughts to be expressed.
Words can be with color or without color,
They may be with valor or without valor.
Pleasurable words palatable words and painful words
They have impact, once expressed.
There exist words with simplicity
Words can as well be with complexity.
Poets speak with pens,
Soldiers speak with guns.
Lovers speak with eyes,
Politicians wax their lies.
Doctors’ words have medical terminologies.
Lawyers’ words are clues for justice.
Priests’ words are full of positive promises,
Actor’s words are written dialogues delivered on stages,
A starving man’s words are for food,
Parental words of advice are always good.
A child speaks words as per his whim,
His mother only can understand his babblings.
Animal’s words are their sounds.
Birds speak with their songs in many rounds.
Trees and plants speak in silence,
How they stay in their society, it looks strange.
Repentance speaks for apology and mercy,
Revenge speaks of enmity and atrocity.
The words of a dying man perhaps is for His mercy,
The words from a living man should be to the noble cause of society.
No linguist of any language can boast of his word mastery,
It becomes hurdles on human unity; hence we must go for a new discovery.
