Today is people---I am alive
to sing
and move about
with family and friends

to hoist a glass
share a plate
mow the lawn and kiss my wife.

Yes, the day does shine
in-laws phone
and friends visiting from
close by---

now I can view the sun as it lingers
goodbye.

Hi Richard, your work always reminds me of those calendars with a positive thought for the day on each page. Yours are a little longer, but they always make me feel that life is beautiful. You may not get a cherry for every piece you write, win millions in literary prizes, or have an international publishing deal, but people reading your stuff can't help but take something good from it. That is a rare quality and one that I've only consistently felt from one other writer on the site and that's Jenny. I think of you as Mr Positivity and her as Mrs Serenity.

You honour me, Sooz006 with your very kind words. Such a wonderful thing to say, and I sincerely hope I really deserve that overview. Some of my past work as a miner, reporter, teacher, social worker and welfare officer in Moosonee on James Bay has given me much insight into human foibles. Yet, from the difficulties of life, I met overcomers who continue to say, Life is worthwhile, and so do I say the same. The best---Richard
