My Child is Missing!

My Child Is Missing!
Today my breaking heart is filled with dread
My child is missing some say presumed dead
At the back of my mind lurk thoughts so vile
Has she been taken by a paedophile?
The police spread out in a long straight line
Beating the undergrowth for some small sign
All day the police search the fields and bogs
Most in a line but some with tracker dogs
Neighbours come out to search a nearby field
Each new search going out further afield
All day long the people hunt high and low
While I hope my child’s not with a psycho
Then I get a kind of premonition
That I’ll be the one under suspicion
The charge is levelled at me, the mother
It must be me, there can be no other
Now the talk is there’s no smoke without fire
And look at me as if I am a liar
Then when I’m taken in for questioning
The phone calls now are mostly threatening
But I couldn’t love this child more than I do
And neighbours must know this to be true
But it is to my everlasting shame
That I failed to protect her, I am to blame
The news says a child’s body has been found
So before too long the Police come round
To take me so I can identify
Though I’m afraid, I must try not to cry
Now I have come from that clinical place
Relieved I could not recognise the face
A body with a label tied on a toe
It’s wicked to name her as just Jane Doe…
FOUND!
My little girl’s been found alive and well
But these past hours I have lived in hell
Now, once again I can spoil her with love
And pray to my God in Heaven above
Thank you for keeping my little girl safe
This child of mine, this sweet innocent waif
Thank God she has come home safe and unharmed
Apart from today her life has been charmed
But still the thought of the woman who waits
For the child whose body deteriorates
Is the thought that haunts me, so I must pray
For her to have closure this very day
To be with her daughter, the dead Jane Doe
That poor mother…who still does not know!
