The Olympics

They talk of spirit, and of national pride
Of a legacy that the nation, just cannot hide
And it is true the games were something to behold
But the can do spirit is the important thing I’m told
Volunteers a plenty, and crowds waving flags
Toddlers held aloft, above their old dads
Gold, Silver and Bronze, was what it was all about
Endurance, resilience and courage, of that there was no doubt
But now it is all over and the victors will appear on tele
It will all become a circus, and eventually just be silly
They will queue up to dance, and appear in their frocks
Or do endurance tasks, like clambering over rocks
And it’s all a shame now that the focus is on funding sport
When everyone knows its's the one thing that can’t be bought
