Shakespeare without words

she read Shakespeare without the
words, relying on the actions
only---
words after all had brought her
nothing but grief in her short life &
she found honesty to reveal itself
much more true in what it was that
people
did,
as opposed to what came flowing
from their lips, often like vomit
rising right up out through the lips
like somebody who’d been sick on
a ship.
she preferred the tragedies over the
comedies & she whispered it to her
friend---he turned to her in their
intro class & that was when they
first clicked,
him in his new wave David Byrne
sort of getup & her
looking like she just thieved Bjork’s
wardrobe when she wasn’t
looking.
so they missed each other’s sweet 16
so they missed each other’s first joint
so they missed each other’s first fuck
so they missed each other’s first arrest
so they missed each other’s first show
but all is not lost as the story goes &
the battle of the shy can come together in
the strangest of places
under the most circumstantial of
situations &
when the door was opened
it seemed
oh so hard to
close.
that first spark will always be remembered by
at least one of the parties, but it could’ve been
anything really,
anything & nothing,
all in the right place at exactly the
right time &
how far will it go?
just what will become of it all?
they
got
all
the
time
in the
world
to
find
out.
