Two Extremes
P K Routray
Spirituality and materialism,
have to co-exist in tandem
even with two opposite extremes
belonging to divine and devil’s regimes
to sustain a saint or a sinner
a philanthropist or a miser.
Monks staying at monasteries,
seek from the forests and trees,
materials for their food and shelter
hence in them spirituality and materialism both are found together.
Similarly in a brute criminal or a greedy detector
spirituality is also found in their love and compassion for their near and dear.
Spirituality is considered as most true, divine and pure,
materialism is considered as dark, ignorance and the cause of the greed impure.
Combining the two extremes and finding a middle path is the best way,
as it gives rise to force, energy, and a desire to act and stay in the fray.
The dynamics of the universe is retained,
if a perfect balance of both of these attributes is maintained.
If darkness is destroyed, man will be enlightened to reach God the blissful,
and if divinity is removed the same man will become a demoniac devil.
It is painful that both the cases are alien to human nature,
the delicate balance of the two extremes is the natural human feature
Hence so long as human life will exist,
materialism and spirituality will both co-exist for it to assist.
