Walking With The Sunset

Blood of the brilliant day foregone
Spilt in wet widening shadow,
The mark of barbed wire fences growing long
Scratching the surface of dung-filled meadows.
Red washes the land before sundown,
A levelling of man and insect
Into the dust of night, from which
No traveller returns the same way twice.

Superb imagery, dear poet,

Superb imagery, dear poet, your words paint a strong sunset across an equally strong landscape, the colours and mood almost echo the battlefields in the days of William Wallace... it feels powerful, the land still scarred today with 'barbed wire' and the 'levelling of man and insect' giving perspective to all things. Gorgeous and atmospheric, yet quite simply, a beautiful sunset in the mind's eye.
