THE MIDDLE

my birth, the middle of the year
the middle of the day
and never from the middle
of the stream, i dared to stray
.
i kept my highs from cresting
kept my lows from crashing hard
i sat myself down on the fence
and stayed in my back yard
.
but now i'm in the autumn
in the grasp of winter's touch
and i regret the apathy
that kept me in its clutch
.
now, you've become the impetus
that made me shake my world
a brilliant bolt of lightning
that into my yard, was hurled
.
the lightning filled with love
that you injected in my life
the ripple of my laughter
medication for my strife
.
it made me leave the middle
got my compass set to north
like the moon disrupts the tides
i found myself quite driven forth
.
i'm ripping up my roots
and i am tearing down the road
my heart so full of love
that i am ready to explode
.
i was born right in the middle
but you pulled me like the moon
and like the tide, i rise to you
a moment. not too soon
