My Voice

I open my mouth
And I try to speak
As I have so much to say.
I keep it bottled up
All these thoughts left to myself
So many feelings that
Need to escape me in some way.
And yet my words fail me.
My tongue knots,
My throat freezes,
It's always the same.
So once again I sigh
And take a pen in hand.
My mind overtakes my body;
Words engraved into the mangled flesh of trees.
Words of love, hurt and comfort.
Can't you see I'm reaching out to you
The only way I can?
It's silly how a pen carries my voice
When I have a voice of my own.
It's silly how much I have to say to you
But I just... Can't...
