when the other shoe drops

s/he had put on such a good front,

but you’d been expecting it, hadn’t you?

maybe it had been from experience

prior to this one,

maybe you just had an inclination,

maybe you started to believe what your

friends were saying,

maybe you just knew

in your gut.

the thing is,

defense mechanisms are build inside each one of

us,

like walls,

slowly,

brick by brick

&

this partner of yours

might have had their guard up

watching you &

waiting for the shoe that you still had on,

to drop,

whilst all the while,

you were suspicious of them---

in the end, you both lost

because of the damage done

during the life of this absurd game.
