The Rhyme –
First comes the growing and the ripening of the grain;
then comes the reaping when the grains mown down again
then comes the summer when the grain grows long and tall
then comes the harvest when the tall field falls
but then comes the spring again and, green, the grain’s reborn
fields that were once empty filled with barley, wheat and corn.
The Actions -
Cutting action:
Holding your right hand palm sideways with thumb upwards make a karate chop upon the fingers of your left hand just above the knuckles and, as you do so, bend the fingers of your left hand so that it looks like you’ve chopped them all off.
Growing action:
Now run the palm of your right hand slowly over the back of your left hand and as you do so, straighten the fingers of your left hand so that they look as if they’ve grown back. When your fingers are straightened, waggle them like ears of corn blowing in the breeze.
