In Passing
By Bee
- 2960 reads
You wrote a poem for a flower
you found along the road; a simple lovely
torn from her source and left
to be trodden on by passing boots.
You stooped to gently raise her up
and laid her on an old stone wall
where she stretched back fading petals
in the watery sun.
And all the people went about their lives;
paid no mind to the beauty
you preserved. No one stopped
to weep, or even notice the dying of a rose
But I remember
how you took your pen to paper
to immortalize a flower you would not forget
until the day you died.
You never took for granted, life and time
upon this earth. We often talked
of how it would be, and in the end, you left
quietly, just as you lived in passing.

It is so nice to have
It is so nice to have attention drawn to the detail of one little flower. You notice so much more than with a big bloom. I remember looking long at one autumn leaf with a little girl I was helping to look after, and making a poem on that, and her sister picked me a bouquet of dandelion heads, and when I got back I put them in a tiny vase for the in-laws, and they were so pleased. (Couldn't get down to dandelion level nowadays!)
So, you have captured a shared memory which brings to mind his attitudes and character somehow. Rhiannon

This is a really lovely tribute Bee. You've shown us so much of the man through this tale of his treatment of a beautiful little flower. I was wondering what became of his loving dog?

There seems to be a spiritual
There seems to be a spiritual sense of being when time slows down and we are able to look around and discover the beauty that surrounds us.
I loved your description of your friends deep enthusiasm to protect the rose, giving him compassion for all that encompasses Mother Nature.
Beautifully done Bee.
Jenny.
