There were others before her
So there is no reason why
There can't be others after her
We last danced in June
O, so many dances we'd had
I keep them all on my dance card
She 'loved' my laugh.
My hearty, silly, carefree laugh.
I lived to laugh
Those delicate hands, feet, face
The soft-perfumed hair
The squash of our embrace
Secrets I longed to share
Now locked
In a separate mind departed
The family tree drawn for me
An aide mémoire
Discovered in my wallet
In retaliation to my urges
I turn the other cheek,
I laugh and love as much I can
Urges won't win.
Bears will walk these streets
Before I break down and cry.
