Mayfly
You see my love as a mayfly?
Exquisite winged creature,
dancing the mirrored expanses,
eyes sparkling in the beautiful rays
of early morning sun
with flawless grace -
a pretty dance.
It will not touch it's merry feet
in the pool of the defiled.
Abruptly, quickly turned aside,
water is chosen for its purity,
stagnant inlets shunned
for flashing ponds of crystal clean.
But as the day begins to fade,
so does the dance of the mayfly,
who bows its head to silver moon,
offers the gift of its last breath
to be cherished.
as a memory.
Am I a mayfly?
You may wonder if that's true,
but in my mind
I'm thinking...
that mayfly is really you.
