Please do not read this story. This story is not for you. Its only for naughty children who don't do as they are told.
Oh, you are reading it? Well then perhaps you are naughty like the little girl in this tale after all.
Her name was Hilda and she was a girl who never listened to anything that people told her.
For example, her mother would often say to her, "Hilda! Don't go running about in your nice new dress you'll get it dirty" but Hilda would still go playing outside in her new dress and get it all covered in mud.
Or her father would say, "Hilda. Don't slam the door when you go out of the room. Its very noisy and very bad manners".
And yet Hilda would still insist on slamming doors and sometimes would even run round her house slamming them all just to upset her parents.
And every time Hilda refused to listen to what she was told her parents would say to her,
"One day Hilda. You're not listening will get you into trouble and then you'll wish you had done what you were told".
Ofcourse, like everything else, Hilda didn't listen to that either.
However, one day, because her mother had told her not to go too far from the house, Hilda went into the woods and as she was walking through the woods she saw a sign saying,
"Don't go this way. This is the way to the wicked witches house".
Now most people if they had seen a sign like that might have thought about turning back but not Hilda because Hilda didn't listen to anyone or anything, not even sign posts and so she kept on walking deeper into the forest.
But then an owl who saw Hilda, because owls are very wise, said,
"Hoot! Hoot! Don't go that way little girl. Thats the way to the wicked witches house".
But Hilda didn't listen to owls either, no matter how wise they were, because she always thought she knew best and so she kept on walking deeper into the forest.
But then she came to the old house where the wicked witch lived and she saw a sign upon its gate saying,
"Wicked witches garden keep out".
Ofcourse, because Hilda never listened to anyone, saying keep out to a girl like her was like inviting her in and so she pushed open the witches gate and went skipping up the path to the witches door.
But then on the door she saw another sign, one with a skull and crossbones on it and the words below said, "Give up hope all ye who enter here".
So, being as hopeful as she possibly could, Hilda opened the door of the house and, slamming it behind her, went inside.
The moment she did however, the door behind her started to dissappear so that, where it had been, there was only a wall.
Then she heard a cackling sound and saw a door infront of her slowly open and an old witch come out of it.
"You must be a naughty girl", said the Witch.
"How did you know that?", asked Hilda.
"Why, my child, thats the reason I put the sign in the forest and on my gate and door because I know that only naughty girls who don't listen will ignore them and I want naughty girls to come into my house", she said.
"But why?", asked Hilda.
"Because", said the witch turning into a growling, hairy monster with horns, big teeth and claws, "Naughty girls are what I like to eat the best".
Then the monster came slowly towards her and terrified, Hilda turned round and tried to run out the way she'd come in but the door wasn't there any more and then she heard the sound of a laughing monster behind her and felt long clawed hands reach out and grab hold of her.
"Help me! Help me someone!", she screamed hoping someone outside would hear.
"Oh its no good calling for help", said the witch, "In my house, Girls who don't listen can't be heard".
"Then I will listen", she said, sobbing, feeling the arms of the monster pulling her towards its big open mouth, "Oh please. I will do as I'm told from now on. I promise".
Just then however, Hilda felt the arms of the monster becoming softer and warmer and, opening her eyes, she realised that they weren't the arms of a monster but her father hugging her.
"There, there", he said, "You were having a nightmare but everythings alright".
"Oh daddy", she said, smiling and feeling happy that she wasn't going to be eaten by the witch after all, "I'm sorry I've been such a naughty girl. From now on, I'll always do whatever I'm told".
