My Dear Trilochan
Bhai
(Prasant Kumar Routray)
Students early in your profession
profess service to needy as their ambition.
By the time they graduate
their choice of service, they modulate.
The lure of a job having fat emoluments
with urban life of ease, comfort and opulence
traps them to forget their early days’ promise.
They settle at urban locality to materialistically rise.
You proved to be an exception out of the lot
serving the rural mass sacrificing the urban comfort
staying near to the people who nurtured you with love.
This relationship is crafted with a purpose by the creator above.
But man for selfish motive drifts away from His assigned society
with hypocritical pretext to serve the unfathomable limitless humanity.
With no communication to back, no electricity for illumination
your struggle to medicate a patient is beyond today’s imagination.
Being only a graduate of medicine, your services without modern ammunition
amaze todays’ experts, they seek your expertise with humble submission.
From a mud hut you served the unfortunate have-nots
rushing to the patients in odd hours in untrodden spots.
Your soothing touch, sweet words and affectionate smiles
brought patients even when you were down, from miles
“Let Doctor touch us we will recover” was their cry.
Under dying pain for their smile you came down to try.
All such blessings in your life were perhaps noted by the Lord
with an arduous examination He took you with Him abroad.
You did not want shocking tears from your well-wishers’ eyes
took the pain on to you while struggling to cease your sighs.
The monks and saints whose physical sight the world over intensely longs for
in person came to bless you, it speaks, you, how much people adore.
This year the Lord’s’ chariots rolled when you were admitted to a hospital
and the Lord returned in time unusually to welcome you to Hia portal.
Not a strange coincidence but it indicates a blissful journey for a soul
to merge with Him, with pious deeds birth after birth man tries for this goal.
Reveal you I being the last of your spouse’s surviving elder brother
that we dreamt for a groom with all bests in the world for our sister.
With gratitude we listen to your acquaintances eulogizing your love for her.
I tell with humility “You were the best as father chose for his daughter”.
“Hey Lord! You are the supreme and know what is the best for your creation.
But I pray for strength to my sister and peace for the departed soul of Trilochan,”
(N.B Dr Trilochan Jena is my brother-in-law ( Married to my younger sister) was a doctor by profession. He did not have any specialization but his experience, sincere and sweet dealings generated confidence in the patients and cured many even from deadly duseases. He did not enter a job either in public or private sector and served remote rural people for forty six years till days before his death. His practicing area was close to his village with no communication and no electricity for many years.. He succumbed to cancer on 22nd July. It is my tribute to the departed soul.)
