Good fathers, bad fathers
– can the ideal
of fatherhood perfect
be tasted for real?
Compassionate, loving,
strong to protect,
listening, hearing,
wise to correct.
Heavenly Father
loving to all
accepting adoption,
hearing his call.
Now we’re desiring
your kingdom soon come;
your name be revered
your will on earth done.
Give us sufficient
to serve you each day,
you’re loving and able,
forgive; if we stray
to sin and temptation
lead us to your way
– all glorious for ever,
our Father, we pray.
(with reference to Matthew 6:9-15, and Luke 11:2-4, commonly referred to as 'The Lord's prayer')
Tune: 54 54 54 54 eg ‘‘Thine own Way’ by G C Sebbins
