Somebody Sang and I saw the Colour Blue

Somebody sang and I saw the colour blue
a long song about distance, how far..
How far are the things which are just out of reach?
In searching we cast aside gems,
dulled by the swell of life, we’re blind to their shine.
Still we search until we grow small
and fade into the blind doubts of our settled twilight.
Remembered in a sea of distortion
where memories roll and spin in the salt swell then
are stifled in the airless traps of time.
Voices lost like whispers in the surf, trace the tidal heave.
All of us divine that we shall float yet
down down we go, swallowed whole by the fathoms of age.
Face the sea monsters we formed and
release them from their nets; their features soften as they drift
away like they were never really real.
All that’s left are feelings because no-one remembers the same.
Somewhere distant the long song still plays.

In searching we cast aside
In searching we cast aside gems, dulled by the swell of life, we’re blind to their shine. seems to be the centre of the piece, of the musing … and the busy temporary inventions of the swell of life that can cloud out the gems, and never really help the feelings. – ?? Rhiannon

Do you see colour with music,
Do you see colour with music, too?
I like the ripply shape. And the wobbly rhythm, the line ends sort of slop. This bit's so true:
All that’s left are feelings because no-one remembers the same. Makes me think feelings are like colours and facts are lines which get blurred or rubbed out

Hi Jane,
Hi Jane,
i cannot believe I missed this masterpiece.
Those lines:-
In searching we cast aside gems, dulled by the swell of life,
we're blind to their shine.
Made me think of just how many poems I might of missed out on, just because of getting bogged down with everyday life.
I was blind to this poem but so glad I found it.
Thank you so much for sharing it's beautiful.
Jenny.

The nature of memory is
The nature of memory is fascinating. I particularly loved the image of the sea monsters. You have beautifully captured the way we remember the significance of an event or person in our own lives, rather than the 'reality'. A gem of a poem.
