That's Not The Way I Go

That’s not the way I go. I go
Through the knotted hedgerows
In the folds of misty trees.
I stop to listen to the music
Spirits rustling in the blankets
Of remembered fallen leaves
The way I go is over quilts
Of pasture scented with the
Blooms of might have beens
Bitter perfume stings and
Still the sweet hope trails
Of ideas which still flower free
On the route that I take
There’s a stage in the sky
Silver clouds are cast in flight
Dream-shifting creatures and
Faces I have known meld as
Life into imaginary life
On the path that I walk
There are deep caves
I wander in and through
Stop to draw the darkness
Feel the rack-wring of my conscience
To my darkness I am true
On the way that I go
There’s no score, no counting
Just the one two of my breaths
And a little winged-heart beat
Existing, tuning time and I
Keep quiet and quietly not in line

I like the way you go, Jane.
I like the way you go, Jane. Sounds like we often take the same path
A really uplifting poem. Beautiful.
I especially like
On the route that I take
There’s a stage in the sky
Silver clouds are cast in flight
Dream-shifting creatures and
Faces I have known meld as
Life into imaginary life

Made me think of a patchwork
Made me think of a patchwork eiderdown made of gauzy mists, black velvet inside caves, shimmering satin clouds, thick embroidery of hedges, like reliving memories as you sew it together with words.
"The way I go is over quilts
Of pasture scented with the
Blooms of might have beens" is gorgeous!
And I liked how you can sense the power of darkness outide you, but keep yours as it's yours, from your own life.. That could have a poem all on its own.
But the end is a great rebellion
"Keep quiet and quietly not in line" how to survive and stay true to yourself, inside

sorry I'm late to your poem Jane, I can't believe I missed such a significant piece of writing. There's so much value to this poem, it's like a gentle meditation that leads the reader down a path of natures beauty.
I can't pick out a favourite stanza, the whole poem is just perfect.
If it was a painting it would be a masterpiece.
Jenny.
