I’m sorry I lied to you
And hurt you over the years
When I see this I try to
Hold back all the tears.
You don’t feel comfort
Within your own skin
You feel you can’t confront
The you that is within.
I understand that you’re hurt
But don’t understand
Why you need comfort
Yes I’ll hold your hand.
For in this life people
Only see your BMI
Life’s just not that simple
Inside you cry.
People they don’t have
Very much compassion
Towards you, you concave
And for life no passion.
To you I must apologize
For why you do feel
From others ostracized
My apology is real.
For you my love I have to try
Really hard not to eat
I just can’t see you cry
But you’ll get back on your feet.
Hopefully some day
You will forgive me
And peacefully I will lay
And you will be free.

A very topical subject,
A very topical subject, treated thoughtfully. Can I say that I thought the first half of the poem was much better than the second half? I had a clear image of what was being said in the first four verses, but then the poem seemed to get a little lost, with what felt like some quite forced rhymes, the language being twisted to fit the form rather than fitting naturally into it eg 'you concave/and for life no passion' and 'from others ostracized' - they didn't feel in keeping with the more natural language of the first half.
Hope you don't mind the comments - I think it's a really interesting idea that's getting a bit obscured by some of the language.
Is the photo something you've taken? Just asking because of our paranoia on here about getting sued for breach of copyright!
