The Gallos Statue, Tintagel

See through statue on the island's heart,

seeing the Celtic Sea through the unrendered

gaps in the chest, an unguessed at warrior,

eight feet high in bronze,

metal weathered already to green on

the headland.

This statue does not look seawards,

but at the flocking seagull tourists

who arrive and watch but do not see enough.

Eynon's work, more than mansize,

eloquently mute, ready warrior,

this soldier hero who is not Arthur,

but the scythe lord of long dead

Dumnonia.
