I wonder where all the hats went? Everyone wore them until about halfway through the seventies - then they vanished! Really enjoyed this little poem. Is that a homberg? (sp)

 went to Spain, all the old men (my age now, I suppose) still wore their hats every day. Mostly homburgs or fedoras [They are the only hats, as far as I'm concerned], they wore them with panache, whether they were in an old suit or a bedraggled pair of jeans and the top half of their combinations showing.

I often wonder about one particular guy I used to see, walking 7 or 8 km to town from his tiny finca en el campo.

I think it's supposed to be a homburg, but it doesn't look quite right.

 I'm still looking for my perfect fedora.
I did hate wearing my beret and twat hat(peaked cap) for the 23 years I was in the R.A.F. though. :-D

Wonderful. My youngest has a felt version banded with ribbon, his official much loved Adventuring Hat.

Really clever how you managed to put it in as a picture. It makes me think of Fred Astaire, who was very good at doffing and was equally charming and nifty. yes

In the old days women were expected to wear hats in church. It is according to scripture, in Peter's letters I think. My high school sweetheart always wore a hat in church but it was Ok because she smiled a lot.
