Another Reason To Live
By Paul McCann
We all need a reason to carry on .when thing go wrong , when we feel disappointed , when we retire or feel useless , when we get sick or loose someone, we love it can leave an emptiness within that’s hard to fill .
There are times when ewe need to dig deep and soul search for a reason to give us hope , to satisfy our hunger to be appreciated or to be loved .
Whatever that reason is , we need to find it and embrace it and carry on regardless .
This is the story of Mick who lost his all his family in a tragic car accident . The car Mick was driving was hit by two cars who collided at an intersection . Mick tried to avoid the accident but in doing so his car overturned and everyone in the car perished except for him .
He had some fractures and bruising and ongoing mental trauma that he was receiving medication for . He attended some group therapy and slowly began to talk about the day he lost his everything in his life that was dear to him .
He met a woman called Denise in the group who had also had a similar experience and lost everything and everyone she loved in an aeroplane crash . They were to all coming to join her at a conference she was attending , the plan was to have a weeks’ vacation before returning back to their family home together.
Mick and Denise started to find some common ground about their similar experience and soon they had a strong bond of friendship .
Anytime day or night if one of them wasn’t feeling the best they would call each other on the phone and give words of support and caring .
Their grief brought them together and after a while there was an understanding and trust that developed between them .’
Like a miracle love happened and the love they shared they rebuilt their broken lives together and even started professional counselling service to others who needed help .
Mick and Denise found a reason to carry on and that reason was love .
They discovered what they had lost they had found it the way life had brought them both together and, in their relationship, they grew and became stronger in the tears the shed and the comfort they gave . In their fears they found strength and, in the sadness, they found joy and laughter .
As survivors they found healing and trust . The love they shared was full of peace and hope . Each always had an answer to the problems they had to face .
They gave and they took and each person understood the amount needed .
It was always a work in progress but their love for one another made things possible Even though it would take time , they had anything from a minute to a lifetime to work it out together . They had no more anger because love had taken it away .
They looked at life as a journey through the wilderness with love by their side every step of the way and from the beginning to the end they made a promise not to turn back no matter what ,. They were stronger by what had happened to them and they were able to give more in return to one another .
In their brokenness , love had put back the pieces and cemented bonds that could never be broken.
They both found another reason to carry on and embraced that in everyway ,
There had a reason in the sound of a heartbeat , the touch of a kiss the warmth of a smile and the appreciation of a kind a word spoken .Although they had lost everything before they met, they had found even more in return and built a happy home together . Life was good to them both .
