Omar's Diary for Friday 11th March 2016 - whoops, I got it wrong

I am still thinking about Prospective Lady Servant (PLS) who came to stay with us last weekend and who did not stay beyond Sunday afternoon. I know PLS spoke English with a very strong accent and had slightly different cultural understandings of what behaviour is acceptable in this country which may not be the same as in her country. That is if PLS does actually have another country as she might even have been a refugee. I really do hope that it was not my behaviour that discouraged her from taking up employment in my household.
Despite forecasting a further drop in the price of oil back in early January the price has recovered by $10 but this inaccurate forecasting has not impacted my domestic budget. At the time of my forecast I did not take a short position on oil and lose money so I still could have afforded PLS.
Today Man Servant did not have a very good start to the day. In his most sterling effort to be of use around the household he placed his riding clothes in the washing machine in a bundle of what he thought were similar coloured clothes. Sadly for him mixed up in the bundle was one of Lady Servant’s best white tops. Best white it is no longer as it has absorbed the brown of Man Servant’s breeches and become a sepia shaded ghost of its former self.
Methinks Man Servant will be compulsorily taken out to accompany Lady Servant on what she refers to as ‘retail therapy’ and he refers to as ‘retail torture’.
Last night I heard them planning to work around home today. That is always nice as I have company with me all day and more precisely it means that I can get served a lunch. However, this morning there was a great flurry of activity and they were off somewhere in the car. Neither of them were dressed for work so I can only assume that they have taken a day’s leave. I do not remember authorising this leave. I am not surprised that both Servants have taken this attitude to my authority this week after they tried to impose another servant on me last weekend without my knowledge.
Man Servant has just finished reading ‘The New Middle East’ by Paul Danahar which is a book about the Arab Spring and the power of the Servants to demonstrate against regimes and eventually bring them down. Although in some cases what they are being replaced with is not much better than they were suffering under before.
I really hope that my two trusted and loyal Servants do not think that because Servants in other countries have been able to change regimes that they can do the same in my household.
Earlier this evening I found out that I have to retract everything I said about my Servants not involving me in the selection of PLS. In one of my Servants’ conversations I heard them mention that they had finished off a box of chocolates that PLS had given them last weekend in thanks for their hospitality and that they hoped she would return for another short weekend break. PLS was never going to be a part of my household except as a guest! How wrong can I be? No, please do not remind me about my oil price forecast.
It was not my behaviour towards PLS or my suspicion that she might even be an illegal immigrant without the right to work here or worse still, PLS could have been a refugee and I should have been much more welcoming to her.
Next time PLS visits I will make a big effort to be more polite as I should have been when she first stayed and not judge until I know all the facts.
