Ruined

Now I am but chastened chamber
vaulted vat, drained, dried
of life, leant forlorn
against other forgotten vessels
in cobwebbed corners
of dying sunlight

I've watched, voided and voiceless
my glory come and go
held days of wine and roses
drunk fills of honeyed kisses
till utterly spent, content
against the warm breath
of your small sighs
in dreamless slumber

Now I list, hollow hearted
bruised, battered remnant
of once upon a time journeys
when you roamed me like a beloved city
trailed me as faithful, familiar habitats
where dreams unfold in love's enchantment

Now I am as nothing
Empty echoes of long ago laughter
Faded ruin in murdered moonlight
where once I twirled, giddied,
sated in endless draughts of your devotion
Now I can but stand surrendered, unvisited
abandoned forever to silence's keeping
