Les Désirs Tauromachiques de Mithras
I was a bull weaving between
ten crimson capes
teasing my bloodshot eyes.
With each dexterous pass
the throngs shouted Olé! Olé!
My spine bristled with banderillas.
I saw myself a strutting peacock
in sanguine feathers.
Oblivious to picadors
I dug the blood-covered sand
beneath my hooves.
Nostrils flared, my mouth
gasped the thirsty summer heat.
Lunging to and fro and forth
and sideways my limbs teased
by the brushing crimson silks,
shoulders close to the toreador
I smelled her lithe svelte body.
Once, intimate enough to feel
her sliver my underbelly.
Upon waking all I remembered
were the slant of her stare and
deka painted ersatz fingernails.
