Lo-fi

Pretending that we were lo-fi
was a contrivance.
When no one was listening
we were cavalier with sound quality.
We made mock ups like architects,
set speakers on top of snare drums
played the moog synth in the bath
added in teaspoon and typewriter percussion,
Dave said to keep the set up simple,
so we decided on a valve compressor,
a few decent microphones and a digital 8 track.
We knew there were gaps in our knowledge
so we listened to the band Mum,
smoked some more,
talked about how our art college tutors
taught us lateral thinking
by tying flour bags to our wrists
and persuading us to paint.
During recording we sent noise through tubes
produced penny sweets from behind our ears
kept pockets of change for the parking meter out front.
We sang that we could see inside hills,
write without making marks
pull bones out our bodies
and not feel it.
