Yesterday she was dolled in long boots & tight jeans and her hair bounced excitedly on her shoulders.
Today the weather warns her that winter is coming; the wind drives the rain into the window pane and the clouds darken the sky.
Yesterday robins and bluetits hopped on the window, finding spare peanuts as she dried her hair and sang along to the radio.
Today she wears pyjamas with colourful spots and she stares into her computer screen. Her hood draws her face further inside the shield she has created for herself and as she types, she deletes.

If there is a hole, she will fill it.
Today Radio 2 plays Queen – ‘someone to love’. She has plenty of those, plenty. Everybody wants love, most people she meets are happy to lay their love on her.
Yesterday when it was still and calm and the sun cast an autumnal light, the trees were still and strong.
Today they shake their branches in the wind and lean one way then the next. The cat has not come back to the house.
Yesterday she fed him.
Today he has gone to hunt his own food.
