At the gates of Rome
City of Blood
The Messiah sits among the lepers
Wrapping and unwrapping his blood-soaked bandages
"Perhaps today I will be needed,"
He says.
"I must be ready."
The end is nigh
Now and always
All worlds are ending.
After all, what have we got?
Each of us only
- and exactly -
A lifetime.
Man, his days are like grass -
The wind passes over us
And we are no more.
So when is he coming?
The year six thousand,
When the world will all be sabbath.
Speedily, and in our time.
Today,
if you would only hear His voice.

Eloquently written.
But the year six thousand? How do you know? Or is it a purely symbolic figure?

This poem I found not quite
This poem I found not quite so accessible as the other one I read but that is because I am not sure what you mean by "When the world be all Sabbath." And there were some other passages that I didn't quite understand but then I'm no poet. However I did very much like the line "Each of us only - and exactly - A lifetime.
Still enjoyed the poem overall though.
