Unflinching Reluctance

An unflinching reluctance
to hold her in arms,
so tender and loving,
leaves my soul barren.

Our minds wander
to a world of wonder,
inexorably striding
towards our fate.

As we rise,
big dreams fade into reality
and vanish
as puffs of smoke.

Only together can we see
bonds of joy
standing tall
above the clouds.

A chasm beneath
threatens to swallow
a lifetime of love,
and pain, and sorrow.

The future is bright,
and bleak and hopeless.
I hope we see
another day tomorrow.
