Some might say, No age at all.
But Some don't know the struggle
it took to tough it out the last ten years -
laughing through difficulty,
making a joke of indignity,
a mockery of futility
and smiling through adversity,
but you did it with alacrity.
With sweetest music in your ears,
your heart sang out your coolest song
to guide you into sleep; a three day
long fair well to malignancy.
Unexpected - my own fair well...
A hug at the unit; you waiting
for transport, me leaving chemo,..
What have we become? Old? Never!
Love you, Babe. See you.
Didn't know you should have said,
You won't.
Didn't know you were quitting
dialysis - time to let go.
You never told me -
But you also never got that far.
The frail bird in you decided
early; turned you loose,
all bright to rise like glitter dust
in sunbeams, flying
as you've always longed to.
Never believed in God, you always said,
We are but energy. Hear me
in the wind that takes your breath away,
or see me in a thrashing ocean, cascading
water falling - something nice like that -
Look and listen, and you will find me
now and then, handsome
and forever 57. No age at all.

Wonderful tribute Bee
Such powerful honesty, acceptance and encapturing imagery, Thanks for sharing.
Trust you are keeping well and as positive through it all as your friend has been portrayed to have been by your hand. Be blessed

So good
As always, it's poignant without being sentimental, and I love the way you mix the realist images of the hospital with the spiritual visions of a departing soul. Lovely Bee.

Loved those lines Bee, they were so full of emotion and reminded me that the body is just a vehicle for the soul, and the soul goes on forever.
Beautifully written with attention to detail.
Jenny.
