Confessions to an Ex

I cannot take all that you throw at me
and make it better.
It isn't possible to wish for something
so hard that it happens.
We cannot mould the world to our perfection.
I cannot wash away all of the stains that cover
my body, because they make me who I am.
I can trace my past with my fingertips
and find direction for my life.
But I can't put all of my feelings in a box
for you to organize.
It isn't possible for my wings to unfold,
if your weight is always on top of them.
I cannot be free if you refuse to let me go.
You are the one who turns the blue sky grey.
It isn't possible for a crimson smile to form,
if your puppet master hands won't pull the strings,
that kept me by your side.
I can fall with my pride from your pedestal
but I cannot measure up to your love.
