like lovers in love
carrier pigeons
with little tags on

Peck pecking away
the noise they make so loud
messy droppings
to clear away

Each one called by name
two little blue eyes
blinking away
that shine

Sent to far of countries
and far beyond
taken by rail from Brighton to Ford
used for transferring

messages in the war
homing pigeons
always return back home
to the their sheds

they have come from
game keepers
target most shot down
feathers are removed

Gutted and washed
people like to eat
as a delicacy
succulent taste

Beware of lead pellets
they'll take out your fillings
one could end up
nasty drillings

A really good one for the I.P., Julie. We have lots of woodpigeons in our garden, and two have nested in the hedge by my kitchen window. Really enjoyed your poem, Julie, and I hope you have a good weekend, and manage to keep dry;-) Tina

new Silver-Spun-Sand Wow! hello Tina,have answered more on your poem,should be (IP) of the week. The intricate words,so well written. Yep,pigeons are messy and noisey. As said forgot beady eye bit,thrown all my stanzas out make correct sense. Ray gave me then,bit of drilling and filling and pellets. But that "Jazz" whoops! in again,calming him down! on the divan,but waits for me now? runs in for massage,if only I was a cat? His heart rate is slowed right down! Great Booster From Editor t.cook I muck about but answered? OMG "Ask? and you will receive,I never could, but mighty! one says,pray,ask and you will receive and you will receive OMG at the moment,for the good all. Hope meet you one day,limited alone if far. And mine changes mind,had sore throat,back singing Tuesday. No wrong word wanted in The Oxford dictionary.xx have good week-end never mind the weather,never mind the rain,here we are together,whoops! we go again. Be thankful small and big mercies aye! Papers so gloomy! does my head in. All splattered things. Then I think poor! lady from Cumbria,flooded I sat next too,now I chat! back from her holiday. Sad. I think have a stiff drink!! and you too! If when churh Silver one,no Ray,take bottle and slice Choc=O-waddy-doo-wah-cake then daughter bought then,after blessings,all meet,share,and toast!anyone got piece of chunk cake! Expensive Brighton thenlooked ,looked like a bird cage done up! oh! no, ask without Ray super share! all. Stood up speak,round chairs,sit down while priest said all great! ps. Wanted take a glass up cat owner,Ray says no! Rays,given me back money bought,Ruby "Argos" shop ring myself! had so much in so little time! thanks. I was on edge,whether go for a walk quiet! or church somewhere,but it all came right in the end. "Jazz" in shop garden called,in perfect strokes rest divan. Came again! stayed couple hours,awoke joined us,photoed one hand,Ray held over his shoulder,new Me Me dress scooped neck claws came out out course Day beofre balanced the crown,one hand quick snap tilted with crown on managed. Loved oxygen balloon. Weighted floating play bit,went rubiing on table,corners,and laps all of us,seemed so happy! If only he could talk! new Rhiannonw Hi! Thanks great comment. Just few scribbles,wrong words, effected the stanza left out,so had to juggle beady eye in. And mine sitting here,asked him something else put in,and told me of the pelletts etc; but when I was a child,neighbour so quite so nice, kept a pigeon loft,raced pigeons I distinctly remember the coo cooing,noise,brought it back. Think must have been that,as it was at bottom of our garden then,next door pigeon loft when small. And the person blocked whole alley-way went right along. Umm! plum stones just remember. Mainly xmas pud threepenny bit in,one could choke. I had an aunt in Yorkshire once,they used have pheasants and game,never tried or pigeons. Hope your well. So just went for poem,(IP) Thanks. Hi Julie, it must be the season for pigeons. Perhaps I ought to join in. Loved your poem, it's really well-written and I always love the honesty in your work - never pretentious. We have loads of pigeons come to our garden. They must be nested somewhere. We often hear them cooing up the chimney. I do have an affection for pigeons, the only time I don't like them is when they poo on my car. Anyway, really enjoyed this and I loved the first two stanzas which hooked me right away. new Sue Dinum Hello! Trev,Thanks for nice commenting. This was just a scribble,forgot the beady eye part. So had think what went with stanzas. Threw it out. Make right sense of it. Ray in for once,same room his computer,mentioned pelletts,and filling and drilling. Your right they are mucky,droppings everywhere,they say lucky! Once in the park,I looked up,line of birds above on high branch,staring at me,scary like Alf Hitchcock film and "The Birds" wearing bright colour,omg covered with poo! Pigeons not dangerous like seagulls. I was hit by one,protecting there young,wham round the head,it was in the paper. I can hear those pigeons cooing now damn it. As said some when small next door then at home,had pigeon loft bottom of our garden,and blocked the alley-way,there went along! That must been where heard and saw pigeons pecking and cooing. Poo! is mean't be very lucky. good job can't smell, has advantages and disadvantages. The neighbour when child,had one eye,fight think over pigeon loft,and blocked alley-way. Never tasted pigeon pie. new scratch Hi! scratch been off a while,busy thanks lovley comment. Glad you liked it poem, Few scribbles forgot part beady eye,through me fit in stanzas. So had respace,and Ray gave me fillings drilling and pelletts,stuck then. This was when small neighbour then kept loft of pigeons,but blocked of alley-way had racing pigeons. Just got over sore throat! hope be back singing for pleasure,next week,"Simon Gray" musical director,many go pay,then ten week course or six. Can be events coming up! Time I go forgotten how songs taught! No sheet music teaches us from words how sing! great and too get out meet people. Is it you promised teddy still keep,hope bring up London next time,if mine bring me. Train. I know Yorkshire young,Aunt up there Ilkley moors. new jolono Hello! Thanks comment,quick scribble. And beady eye bit,forgot so had juggle all stanzas again. Ray actually in,suggested filling drilling and pelletts. About neighbour when small lived next door at home,had racing pigeons a loft, Poo is mean't to be lucky! Person blocked main alley-way,went through bottom of our garden at home,for his pigeons. I like reading your work,and all others. Had bit time off,read in book,have keep writing anything everything and reading anything get going. Several things going on. So catching up. Hello Julie, Saw this up the other day and meant to read it but got sidetracked. Remember it today so here I am. Yes, I like this poem too. And whoever it was said your work is unpretentious was right. You have an honest poetic voice without a trace of pretension and it is something I admire in your work. Your love of animals and humanity always make an appearance in your poems and that is why I like reading them. They proper cheer me up. I too have pigeons in the garden and pheasants too much to my dog, Lincoln's annoyance. He chases them off but skids to a halt when he gets to the flower beds. It is really funny to see. I know you love cats but I think you would love my Lincoln too. He is the most gentle, friendly GSD I have ever owned and I love the very bones of him. Glad to hear you are back singing for pleasure with Simon Gray as I can tell it gives you enormous pleasure. Good on yer girl and keep smiling! MOya

Look after yourself. More news Monday maybe. No marriage is 1oo%. I know? Like your Golden Wedding story! Church been my answer won't go into that. all the best. May meet you too one day London . Gt special day Sunday July 8th 2012 Ps Know one knew all done in a jiff! 40 tears,whoops 40 years. Ruby turned out well Ruby omg! going lunch Worthing back watch tennis. Or maybe church,H.M.The Queen does sorting all out. Thought may go for a walk. But fixed up daughter son-in-law came earlier. Perfect day,toast,nice gifts,photos comfort "Jazz" in morning,changed later,popped shop poring hard, never said why dressed up! "Jazz" dashed in us again. Made list what they liked,and us. Even card from mum-in-law don't see. And albumn,bottle wine. I treated myself to Ruby special ring, now he wants to pay! strange. Still things left over four of us,eat and drink. Bought each other small things. Amazing the turn around. Oxygen balloon 4o on daughter floating about, "Jazz" liked. I popped in see if ok on divan,Miaow! We got "Jazz" after him,licking my finger cream sponge Ray made. I previous crowned him No! got photo held camera one hand again,and got placed over his head 2nd try worked. Daughter got some fab; ones. "Jazz" with other on our divan,with crown on. Perfect day and wine. Laughs wine food peace! Always whining? Lovely presents,we were not going do anything,turned out well. Flowers so much so lucky! "Better to give than receive". Know one knew! just all so quick! Mum-in-law barred me,lovely person! Umm! But little prayer worked. Daughter spends out bless her. Can't keep up with them,all photoed smashing. Used have all families party,when daughter was 18 we both did all,I cried so muich food wasted,take home to Somerset, or where,jellies melted laying on tray on bed then.so had doggy bags take home. All so pleased then come,mainly drink and natter,in hot sun,and rest in front room. Times change! don't they. Wanted ask or take "Jazz" owner glass wine,as had "Jazz" most day, hoped hew would be about,in shops garden,look over wall,one call ran in ah! And again in rain he is so affectionate cute! Ray held him over my shoulder claws ouch! got snap brilliant. One year daugjhter bought choc-o-waddy doo wah cake,first time,thought Oh! no not bird in cage frightened. Let me have chunk for church then,no Ray goes,bottle wine priests,blessed photo,and shared all round great. Miss them. Just added on. Time bed night night. Dream well. julie xx

I like pigeons, I know some don't, call them rats of the sky, but I don't think them dirty. Lovely little tribute this to our feathered friends. When they are here, let's feed them, is what I say! When I was young I only saw them in Trafalgar Square, but now they are everywhere in the provinces, not like years ago.

new hilary west Hi! Thanks for lovely comment. Good hear from you. I agree what you say,thanks messy to clear out the droppings! I think reminded me,of when small,neighbour then had racing pigeons. And then he blocked of the alley-way lead through. The (IP) is Pigeons,so made it up quickly. Found left out stanza beady eyes,so had to re adjust all stanzas. Fit in. Stuck then last endings,so mine helped pelletts and fillings. etc; 1st time.ever. Doesn't read any my work in room at the time. No not seen any pigeons years. Rememnber dropping in pigeon holds,think thats the name. Mainly blessed! sea-gulls,blimey! dangerous can have,whacked me round the head,protecting young out! It was in paper at the time,taken in the garden,said"look sad" I laughed! not funny when happened. Not so many so far, swoop down low! Enjoy your writing too. Enjoyed this, Julie! especially the way you undermine the image of the cooing lovers in the first two stanzas - tags & messy droppings - and then lead us into dark comedy when these industrious and innocent birds fly home only to end up on the dinner plate! All served up in your highly original and irreverent style! Well done!

new hudsonmoon Hi! Rich gee! have you got the right person, your so kind,stretching my head! ooh! such a lovely compliment. After a very rough tough time,back. When day centre homeless,taught 20 words,try put into describing,all ages. Or folders with subjects,try and your name in each letter do! Never to scribble it out,and onder over again and again. All typed for all. Sent big issue most got paid. Oh! my goodness. Ant old talent brought out, all filmed celeb: hosts shown on screen Brighton. Strange see one self reading poetry,dressed as cat, £Green Eyes", Also done chosen read "The Wheatsheaf" Didn't believe, Editor t. cook (Tony) consider but did,my word. Great help stuck punctuation. Just doen 40 years m slight celebration daughter and son-in-law gifts cards pressees. Fab: Ray made a gorgeous home made,cream sponge! Oxygen balloon 4o on,neighbours beauiful cat in,patting the balloon swinging to and throw,naughy boy got hold of ribbon weight on heart plastic swinging,getting old didn't think play! Gift daughter one,makeover,and hair,dress up in clothes vintage and photos. Ended up fine! Ray could gon as "Fred Astaire" and me "Ginger Rogers" omnly joking love them dance two. So daughter I go together,don'twant a makover,or hair so dry and grey! now. Bottles of wine. So lucky! Not doing much,last minute list and spread for of us superb. You know how marriages go! I bought myself "Argos" Ruby and diamond ring,saved saved,then Ray surprise paid after saw it. But shop phoned said was ring in size ordered,Ray got call,so knew blow it! Me fetch. Brighton excation some shops, awful blinds down,fire engines,buses traffic block,pandemonium. Blooming escalator third floor,shop,broken walk. Just love all of your's to read,well written! And all. Can type again now? We taught look at a flower, look into it,on postcard,petals colours flowing etc; Some did good work,drawings,paintings. Intrumental bring it back use! again,one young one I spoke too, said he acted? What! used,so he filmed doing, "Queen" imitation tears put down his face,wanted me do,not likely mine are real. Keep smiling off to "Singing for pleasure" saturday, pay quite few go,musical director,"Simon Grey" trains us. New Prettyrose Hi! gee! thanks for comment. Like reading yours,and all. No way as efficient though! Well it's his computer,not working on and off! broken so got another coming! I do like capitals,change into small letters, in middle annoying,have watch every letter! Difficult if Ray is rushing out,captain for snooker says something, if he chats! and bowls. I might be on here,muddles my consciousness up! so do a scribble plonk! it on. Feb;accident could try tow fingers type! Took all four weeks,all over now! ok. Micro-waves broken oh dear! Can't use anyway! smell. Computer was jarring middle typing capitals. He has got another one,on way but if it's muddled fandango! Be awkward me to learn? Things been cancelled owing wet weather! But neighbour's loving cat,curled on one of our divans. Amazing alway's there for me! trying another poem,long one! Two black eyes etc;fall there beside most days. Therapy gives out and me to him. You know if someone has bit too much to drink! my belated pop1 did go upstairs on bed,crash out asleep! “Coo cooing like lovers in love” Julie the poem is beautiful! Yes how lovely it sounds! I think of the Cat Stevens song, “ Morning has broken, like the first morning Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird Praise for the singing, praise for the morning! Praise for them springing, fresh from the world! Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven, Like the first dew-fall, on the first grass Praise for the sweetness, of the wet garden Sprung in completeness, where His feet pass Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning! Born of the one light, Eden saw play, Praise with elation, praise every morning! God's re-creation of the new day ” The joy of life, “It's just an hour on the wings of a dove”. Sorry but I couldn't manage all of the comments. Perhaps they should have us write only comments and dispense with the rest. “I can hear those pigeons cooing now damn it”. There's no stopping them they're at it day and night. If you don't like it you should get ear-plugs. Watch out they don't get away with your ruby and diamond rings too. I agree with Rich and I also love the ending. Good solid stuff. We haven't yet had any real cold Julie our weather usually is not extreme and with only mild winters. Your turn next! New Nolan. Wow! too kind all those complimentary words. I forgot stanza with beady eyes in of Pigeons. So had re-work it all,so through again the stanzas. Then Ray is room,he made up the lead pellets. I too remember damn, cooing and big baskets,pigeons carried in. Think little girl then must been next door neighbour then,had racing pigeons,hear them cooing all the time! Excuse spelling mistakes. Did stay glued tv Queen's Diamond Jubilee fab; weather bad at end. Took photos of tv, Ray's crashed computer,lost quite a hit of my stuff. So new micro-wave came other day,he swithced on jacket potato now,doen't work. Another on way. Blessed computer dodgy! think about that one! Love Cat Steven song,I know it too. Not seen the Queen! Just got wonderful card from her, Majesty,ma'am, great thanks and words. Wow! and six photos of her, and Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip. Had many 2nd hand books, and new on all Royalty! And things given especially on late Diana. When card, from Buckingham Palace came, Omg! I had just had big accident,in bed Ray brought the post in, called him liar whoops! just put name and address! So attached poem Ray did,sent off,explained why so special recive tow black eyes,wonderful "Jazz" neighbour's cat,been in by my side, as in poem, "I Crown Thee King "Jazz". Sent thankyou card for H.R.H. Duke of Cambridge Prince Williams birthday,omg photo back great of him. Then paper said remember wedding of them both,photo back words so kind of them,and with Duchess of Cambridge Kate, on their first wedding anniversary. I also got crown shop,mess about with too small,so Ray saw bigger one ebay,beautiful now,held one hand and camera in the other,took "Jazz" with it just over top of his head,Crowned at last! Always aloud in,loves massages from both of us. Looks around everywhere,brushes his head, on most things,so happy think! Whats! weather like where you are! Colder weather,so "Jazz" been in four days,like poem tried,very very long. Hope your well,rain is a pain! Cancellations things,everywhere! No only "Argos" shop Ruby ring,saved saved as don't get out much with him. Lovely surprise show him,but shop phoned say ring in, blow he told me later evening phoned, not thing wear everyday,if got chipped. Had be ordered arrived just in time. Sunday 8th July went well. Shops open till 9pm? unusal.sitting on chair his back towards me. Not very often. Loves be loved,and company! like me most of time! Someone can't say! who! where mentioned back me,within the year!! so when went market Mariner,missed couple nights sleep! Ray got me climb three flights stone steps,notice floor wet! Windy blown inside out my hair,one stalls,guy said "I looked shocked!or stressed! so I mentioned,what gossip! been said,told about his pet! lost! How I could always,use my love on another! one day,daughter mentioned buy me a kitten! Certainly not! never be another one like this one,mentioned owner! gave cd for computer,of cat,to him pleased. Felt so relived do all things right! I am worried,leaves me goes,to shop or garden,when his food, is already owner! has all done! Now don't know if eaten! Can mention them,gave him biscuits say as cried! Never told owner,no wonder! sick! or not eating! Cat can't tell me either. But mentioned can I still have in,of course they said great! Guy at market told me of his cat,wouldn't eat,things happened in their health lost! After all can't tell you if in pain,even a tooth ache! ahh! Everyone dearly loves whatever pet!
