Who Invented Writing ?

Who invented writing ?
I wish someone would tell,
Sometimes I find it fun,
Most times ' sheer and utter hell.

I sit before a blank page,
It just stares there back at me,
I attempt to write some great prose,
But the result is calamity

I search in vain for a topic
Something different and unique
But I get fed up of looking
Does this mean I'm weak ?

I'm never happy with my writing
I'm sure it can be improved
I check it over and over
Entire lines can get removed

I spent all afternoon on a poem once
I was just playing with my pen
In one line I put a comma in
Only to take it out again

So who invented writing?
I suppose we'll never be sure
I am sure of one thing though
They invented a wonderful chore !
