Unimaginable fate

There was no escape from the unimaginable fate that lay before me. All I could hear was the sound of the chain creaking under the immense weight of the cast iron gate which was being risen in the distance. I could see, an unusually shaped shadowy figure behind the gate. The gate rose, and it commenced!
The figure stepped forward, it was not human, nor was it beast. It’s torso and head, that of a man. The rest of this monstrous creature, a horse. A centaur. It wielded a twin pointed spear in it’s right arm and a shield in it’s left, bearing the crest of the ‘Champions’. The crest could only be achieved if you successfully defeated 100 opponents consecutively without being beaten. The creature had a sliver like substance leaking from its mouth, as if it had been starved of battle and it was unable to control its undesirable hunger for my flesh. Suddenly the ground trembled as I heard the roar of thousands of anxiously awaiting onlookers.
The centaur began to charge. Suddenly I could hear nothing, not even the 10,000 figures surrounding me, but I could hear something, my heart, racing. The only thing in my mind was the beast, charging at unimaginable speeds towards me, as if it were a cheetah. As the beast came within melee range, I quickly unsheathed my sword, a sword crafted in steel, so sharp that it can penetrate the skin with nothing more than its own weight. The centaur arrived at my unprepared body, it lunged its spear swiftly towards me using its sharp aim. I dodged. I narrowly escaped one blow of which was going to be a continuous stream of attacks. I knew I had to try end it quickly, or I would be defeated by the centaurs overwhelming strength and stamina. So I quickly regained an offensive stance and swung my sword, but the centaur was quick to deflect my attack using its shield. This attack, so powerful it threw me to the floor, and knocked my sword out of my hands. The floor began to rumble once more, as the crowd roared in amazement. I tried to reach my weapon, but it was unreachable, the centaur was withdrawing back his spear for one final harsh blow, I was defenceless. The soulless creature then muttered, “No mercy!”, as it then set forth to strike for one last time. At that moment I could hear nothing once more, but was still able to hear the faint beat within my heart, I knew I had to keep going, I knew I could make it somehow. So I moved as fast as my body would physically allow me towards my sword. I grabbed the lifeline; I turned to face my opponent. My blood turned ice cold.
