Self Deception

The bus was crowded I had to stand
the young woman seated smiled at me
Nice to find I'm still fanciable at my age I thought
and she's as cute as a button
They say people are attracted to others who are as good looking as themselves
I wonder if that's true
I do wish Id put my dentures in today I could have smiled back at her
She can’t have spotted my hearing aid
perhaps I could slip it into my pocket unnoticed
She smiled again
and offered me her seat
