the rest of your life

no relationship between two people
stays the same for all time
(& the idea/hope of permanence dilutes those precious feelings of the
now)---
though elemental saps still rave on about the
contractual obligation of marriage held up high
by church & state,
change occurs, exclusive of such a contract &
the person that one says “i do” to,
will not be the person that you walk away from,
most certainly, the idea of walking away is the
furthest from your mind,
when you see all the couples in the world breaking apart &
you hear the statistics that divorce reigns supreme amongst
those adults still plunging into the ridiculous notion that
defining love is done by obligating one to it via contract,
via the division of property, etc., etc., etc.---
what makes you special then? (nothing)
what makes you think that they’ll be there for the rest of your life? (nothing)
scars comes & scars go
but one thing always stays the same:
the uncertainty of when, how & why
they appear in the first place &
just exactly why you thought you’d be immune to it all
just because you believed that you were.
